Calcium oxide (CaO), also known as quicklime, has many uses, including:

Water treatment: Calcium oxide is used to treat water for drinking by increasing its alkalinity, which kills microorganisms. 

Cement and mortar: Calcium oxide is used in the production of cement and mortar. 

Medicinal purposes: Calcium oxide is used in medicine and insecticides. 

Laboratories: Calcium oxide is used as a reagent in laboratories for dehydration and precipitation reactions. 

Leather tanning: Calcium oxide is used in leather tanning and processing.
